![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It should look something like this when finished. To do this heat a blob of solder on the end of your soldering iron and dip the wire in it till its tinned, solder one end of the wire to your first point then cut it to size so it will reach the pin your going to solder it to Using solder core enamel wire we are going to solder from the SWDIO and SWCLK test pads to pin A7 AND A6 respectful. I’m not sure who came up with this idea but I think its genius. I use a cheap USB microscope of stuff like this only about £12 from Aliexpress. This is a better way since you wont need to modify the shell but you will need some magnification and a steady hand to solder onto the USB C port pins. If you go on stacksmashing discord ( )under the #hardware-stuff room there are loads of inspiration on to where to put your headers like this from hard way If you are planning on flashing your unit down the road you might want to add some female headers and cut a small gap in the shell so you don’t need to keep opening it up to re-flash. You need to hook up to SWCLK PIN 22/GPIO 25 then hook SWDIO up to PIN 18/GPIO 24 and finally hook GND up to PIN 20/GND or any GND pin on the raspberry pi shown below. The only points we are interested in are SWDIO, GND, SWCLK we are not going to be connecting VCC we are going to be powering it from the USB C port and battery power. ![]() You can see to the left of the points there is an arrow this is pointing at pin one. The pinout for the test points is below, This is for the Zelda unit but is the same for the Mario one but the Mario one has one less point. There are 2 ways to do this, The easiest way is to solder 3 wires on the test pads, The other way is to solder 2 wires onto the unused D+ and D- pins of the USB C port.Īs I said the easiest way is just to solder 3 wires to the test points then to the raspberry pi, The test points are spaced at 1.27mm so you can’t just use normal 2.54mm spaced headers, saying that you can remove the plastic spacers and just solder on the metal male pin. Lets start by getting the hardware mod done first then moving on to the software side of things. You should consider getting a stlink and using this brilliant guide instead THIS GUIDE IS BROKEN AND SHOULDN’T BE USED, I’M LEAVING IT UP BECAUSE ITS HELPFUL TO SOME PEOPLE. ![]()
